IT outsourcing or an in-house system administrator: what is better for your company?
Every growing company in Yerevan reaches the point where someone has to take care of servers and network properly. There are two options: hire a system administrator or outsource IT. Here is an honest comparison.
In-house administrator
- Always in the office and knows your company well.
- Salary, taxes, equipment and training are paid every month, even when there is little work.
- One person cannot know everything: networks, servers, cloud and security.
- Vacation, sick leave or resignation leaves the company without IT support.
IT outsourcing
- A team of engineers with different specialisations for one monthly fee.
- Response time and support hours are fixed in an SLA contract.
- No dependency on one person: knowledge is documented and shared.
- Usually less on-site presence — routine work is done remotely, visits by schedule or incident.
When outsourcing makes more sense
- Offices with 5–100 employees and a few servers.
- Companies without a full workload for a full-time admin.
- When you need specialists occasionally: migration, security audit, network redesign.
- When downtime is expensive and you need 24/7 coverage.
A hybrid option
Larger companies often keep one internal IT person for daily tasks and outsource servers, security, backup and night-time on-call. This combines local knowledge with a full team behind it.
